Class 100(2) A printing plate 2 is tensioned around a cylinder 1 by rotation of clamp 4 on a spindle 7, one clamp being operated by the bevelled face of a piston 6 whilst the other clamp is operated by the bevelled face of a piston 9 axially slidable in a bore in the piston 6 which is itself axially adjustable. For relative adjustment of the pistons 6 and 9 a slot 10 is provided in the piston 6 through which passes a cam bar 11 adapted to engage the lower ends of the piston 9 so that on moving the cam bar 11 the pistons 9 are raised or lowered with respect to the pistons 6. A plurality of pistons are located along the length of the' cylinder 1 and by providing the cam bar with symmetrically reversed and progressively varying slopes for engaging the pistons 9 the plate may be skewed on the cylinder 1. Instead of a cam with progressively varying stops threaded rods with progressive pitch or toothed wheels with a progressive number of teeth may be used.
