Abstract
878,394. Arc-rupturing in switches. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. July 13, 1959 [July 22, 1958], No. 24065/59. Class 38 (5). An air-break switch has an arcchute providing a plurality of series-connected arcs and comprising a plurality of parallel compartments 21 . . . 23 each containing a pair of fixed arcing horns 11 . . . 13 and a co-operating moving bridging contact 3. The connections (indicated at 19, Fig. 3) between arcing horns in adjacent compartments pass in a gas-tight manner through the dividing walls 16, 17. Plates 24, 25 of magnetic material may be provided on the outer walls of the arc-chute and may be associated with a permanent magnet or an electromagnet for blow-out purposes. The dividing walls 16, 17 may have magnetic insertions.
