Abstract
790,099. Electromagnetic switches; arc rupturing in switches. SQUARE D CO. May 7, 1956 [May 26, 1955], No. 14008/56. Class 38 (5). Energization of a coil 7 lifts a T-shaped armature 9 towards a core 5 so that a beam 4 pivotally connected to the armature at 6 slides along a support 2 and an insulating contactoperating beam 8 connected to the beam 4 is raised. The beam 8 carries at its centre a permanent blow-out magnet 24 and at its extremities spring-biased bridging contacts 25, 27, and when the beam is raised the magnet 24 abuts a normally closed spring-biased bridging contact 26 to separate it from fixed contacts 30, 32, the interrupting arc being attenuated by the magnet ; also, the contacts 25, 27 engage, respectively, pairs of fixed contacts 12, 13. On deenergization of the coil 7 the arcs formed by the opening of contacts 25, 27 are attenuated by the magnet 24 although with lesser effect than that exercised upon the contact 26. The three sets of contacts have arc chambers such as 38 formed in an insulating block 10 whereby each set is isolated from the others.
