Abstract

859,802. Arc-rupturing in switches. I-T-E CIRCUIT BREAKER CO. April 30, 1959 [Oct. 29, 1958], No. 14793/59. Class 38 (5). In order to reduce leakage flux to a minimum the energizing coils of a magnetic blow-out structure are wound on the face of the magnetic structure adjacent to the arcing area. Fig. 2 shows a circuit-breaker generally similar to that of Specification 804,660 whose arc chute 58 is surrounded by a closed magnetic structure 68 which carries on one side a face-wound coil 70, encompassing nearly all the area of arc motion and being connected in series or parallel with a similar coil on the other side of the chute 58. The coils 70, 84, Fig. 3, are arranged in notches in the laminated stacks 100, 106, respectively, and are secured to supports 90, 92, which are clamped to the stacks by flanges and bolts. The magnetic circuit is completed by laminated stacks 108, 110. Specification 824,896 and U.S.A. Specification 1,606,808 also are referred to.
