Abstract

796,101. Arc rupturing in switches. WHIPP & BOURNE, Ltd., and WHIPP, F. E. April 27, 1956 [April 29, 1955], No. 12390/55. Class 38 (5). In an air circuit-breaker the contacts 10, 11 are in series with main blow-out coils 23, 24, 25, 37 mounted on core 14. When the breaker is opened the action of the blow-out coils transfers the arc to runners 21, 22, runner 22 having connected to contact 11 and runner 21 to coil 29 which is also on the same core 14 as the other coils and is connected to contact 10. The auxiliary coil 29 thus assists the action of the main coils when the contacts 10, 11 are opened. The runner 21 may be in two or more sections interconnected by additional auxiliary coils as 35.
