991,926. Arc-rupturing in switches. INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING. Sept. 21, 1961 [Sept. 21, 1960], No. 33885/61. Heading H2B. A switch has an arc chute in which the arc drawn between main contacts 5, 6 is first extended on to two rows of auxiliary electrodes 4 to insert resistors R1 . . . R6 or resistance blow-out coils in series with the arc, the arc then being extended between arcing horns 1. Extinguishing chambers 2 are provided to extinguish sections of the arc between adjacent electrodes 4.
