Abstract

1,008,725. Arc rupturing in switches. LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Aug. 17, 1962 [Aug. 21, 1961], No. 31644/62. Heading H2B. In a single or double break circuit breaker an arcing chamber 1, containing a plurality of arc quenching plates 2 with V-shaped cut-outs 2b to facilitate entry of the arc, is provided with two insulating plates 9 extending to the plates 2 but spaced from the walls of the chamber 1 so as to form two gaps 10 through which pressure equalization may take place. In the double break circuit breaker shown the arc is struck between a movable contact bridge 6 and each of two fixed contacts 8. The fixed contacts are extended into arc runners 8a, 2a while the contact bridge-6 carries arcing horns 6a from which the arc passes to further arc runners 3. It is stated to be possible to omit one of plates 9 in order to save space.
