738,730. Arc-rupturing in switches. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 27, 1953, No. 29661/54. Divided out of 738,674. Class 38 (5). A switch has an arc chute with a plurality of spaced insulating plates 85, 86 arranged transversely to the arc, the plates being provided with integral ribs 90 which extend between adjacent plates and trap and cool some of the arc products and deflect the rest away from the median plane of the arc chute to cause them to come into intimate contact with the lateral walls of the arc chute. The plates 85, 86 may have arc constricting slots 87, 88 and be provided with clusters of apertures 89 as described in Specification 738,674.
