Abstract

850,306. Arc rupturing in switches. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 20, 1958 [Feb. 28, 1957], No. 5593/58. Class 38 (5). An arc-chute having insulating arc plates is fitted with a plurality of transverse cylindrical cooling elements 25 at the exhaust end of the chute, some of the elements being at different distances from the arc-receiving end of the chute. As shown, the cooling elements are in the form of grouped insulating tubes and the tube groups are separated by insulating sheets 27. The groups at the sides of the arc-chute contain more tubes and extend nearer the exhaust end of the arc-chute than those at the middle. Specification 689,227 is referred to.
