Abstract

792,359. Arc-rupturing in switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 29, 1956 [April 7, 1955], No. 9823/56. Class 38 (5). In an air-break switch similar to that of Specification 666,941, the arc-chute comprises spaced parallel plates of insulating material. Alternate plates have slots as shown in Figs. 4 and 3, respectively, and plates 16 are alternately reversed so that the arc is driven upward along tapered slots 29, 30 and 33 to provide two arc paths 39, 39a, Fig. 5. The tie 36 is provided for mechanical strength only. A fin construction can be used, the fins from each side meeting at lines 16a and 35.
