650,039. Arc-rupturing in switches. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. July 29, 1947, No. 20483. Convention date, July 29, 1946. '[Class 38(v)] In a switch having fixed contacts with arcing horns, one or more intermediate electrodes is or are provided with arcing horns arranged sc that when the switch is opened the arc is divided into two or more portions which are electrically in series but disposed spatially in parallel relationship. The intermediate electrode may be separate from or form part of the moving contact. In the Figures, the fixed contacts a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP> have diverging arcing horns c<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>2</SP> situated on opposite sides of a partition d of an arc shoot e. The moving contact h has horns 9<SP>1</SP>, g<SP>2</SP> also extending on opposite sides of the partition d so that a pair of divergent horns c<SP>1</SP> g<SP>1</SP> are disposed on one side of the partition and the other pair c<SP>2</SP>, g<SP>2</SP> are disposed on the other side as shown in Fig. 2. Blow-out coils i<SP>1</SP>, i<SP>2</SP> and transverse deionizing plates of insulating material or metal (not shown) may be provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, also described and illustrated a switch having one fixed and one moving contact with arcing horns and a fixed intermediate electrode. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
