Abstract

368,645. Arc-rupturing in switches. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON, Oerlikon, near Z³rich, Switzerland. July 17, 1931, No. 20495. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1930. [Class 38 (v).] Arcing horns 1 of, for example, a switch have surrounding them on three sides a jacket of magnetic material in order to produce a concentrated magnetic field and the magnetic material is completely covered with insulating material which may be fireproof and waterproof. The two ends of the bent-up magnetic jacket 2 which is covered with insulation 3 extend beyond each horn 1 and leave a space 4 between them to constitute a path for the arc in which a maximum field is produced.
