Abstract
763,510. Arc-rupturing in switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A. Sept. 7, 1955 [June 8, 1954], No. 16844/54. Class 38(5) In an arc-chute for an air-break circuitbreaker having spaced parallel partitions 10, 11, the ends 22 of some of the partitions 10 extend beyond the ends of the partitions 11 on either side of them so as to form pockets in which gas-permeable cooling material extends transversely to the direction of movement of the arc gases. The cooling material may comprise spaced parallel strips 23 of metal gauze or pieces of perforated metal sheet each folded into U- shape and mounted in a pocket with the limbs of the U extending across the pocket. Inwardly projecting ribs 24...26 may be secured to the extended ends 22 to prevent the passage of hot arc gases past the edges of the gauze strips and lower edges of the ribs may be inclined as indicated at 27 so that they may act as inward gas deflectors. The partitions 10, 11 may have slots 14, the lower part of each slot being parallel sided and the tapered upper parts of the slots being staggered alternately. Laminar magnetic inserts 20 may be embedded in the partitions.
