Abstract

840,901. Arc rupturing in switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Aug. 27, 1957 [Sept. 21, 1956], No. 26963/57. Class 38 (5). The closed side walls of an arc-chute for an air-break circuit-breaker with magnetic blowout are provided with one or more aspirator ducts for inducing a supplementary blast of air into the arc-chute. As shown, slotted insulating plates 29, 30 are arranged in pairs in the arc-chute. The plate 30 of each pair has embossed portions 43, 44 which together with the adjacent plate 29 define an aspirator duct leading from a window 52 in the arc-chute side wall to adjacent the apices 41 of the plate slots. Alternate pairs of plates have their slot apices on opposite sides of the centre line and their aspirator ducts leading to opposite sides of the arc-chute. Alternatively, the plates 30 may be provided with duets leading from both sides of the arc-chute, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown).
