Abstract

877,809. Arc-preventing in switches. I-T-E CIRCUIT BREAKER CO. Oct. 29, 1957 [Nov. 19, 1956], No. 33759/57. Class 38 (5). In a multi-phase circuit-breaker having a moulded case 20, 22 with channels in which the contacts are located, barriers 64, 66 are provided for restricting the circulation of ionized gases between the contacts of different phases through openings in the walls 44, 52 of the channels, so as to prevent flashover between the phases. In the arrangement shown, the outer channels of a three-phase circuit-breaker have barriers to restrict the flow of ionized gases through apertures 62 in the channel walls, the apertures permitting the use of a common operating shaft 60. Slots 74 at the top of the barriers and holes 72 in the barriers permit some leakage of gases so as to avoid the production of excessive pressures. Specifications 783,366 and 869,424 are referred to.
