Abstract

960,937. Arc rupturing in switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 20, 1963 [Feb. 21, 1962], No. 7451/62. Heading H2B. An arc chute having insulating side walls 1 is provided with two pairs of conductive, non-magnetic plates 14, 14<SP>1</SP> mounted externally and connected respectively with the contacts 4, 5, there being a gap A between edges of the plates which increases as the distance from the contact gap increases. Multiple parallel connected contacts are provided spaced from one another by perforated, insulating plates 2. The insulating portions of the arc chute are of a moulded phospho-asbestos material such as is disclosed in Specification 589,270 [Group V] and a muffler 11 of the type described in Specification 564,263 [Group XXXVII].
