Abstract
1,253,253. Liquid-blast switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 9 Jan., 1969 [6 Feb., 1968], No. 1414/69. Heading H1N. In a three-phase oil-blast switch 1 in which the three pole units A, B and C are disposed within a single tank 2, each pole unit includes a spaced pair of serially connected grid units 4 with respective vent channels 41, 42, directed radially outwardly of the tank with respect to the central axis of the three spaced pairs so that the exhaust gases may not substantially combine for interphase flashover within the tank 2. Each terminal bushing 9 has a stud 6 to which a contact foot 15 is attached, a stationary contact housing 17 being attached to foot 15 and an insulating shell 14 housing a grid unit 4 being secured to housing 17. The pairs of grid structures 4 are electrically interconnected by conducting crossarms 11A, 11B or 11C, which are reciprocally vertically moved by lift-rods 12A, 12B, 12C, to cause rod-shaped moving contacts 26 to engage and disengage with the stationary contact structures 24 in housings 17. Structure 24 comprises four spring-loaded contact fingers 21 of a copper-chromium alloy with are-resistant tungsten-silver alloy tips 21a, one finger 24A being longer than the others to act as an arc horn. Each grid structure 4 includes a stack of insulating elements of various compositions, in particular vent-providing plates 36, 37, of polyoxymethylene, see also Figs. 6-9 (not shown), and a splitter plate 39 of fibre sheets, and a bottom plug 62.
