Abstract

1,177,907. Air-break switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 31 July, 1968 [9 Oct., 1967], No. 36519/68. Heading H1N. The earthing switch of Specification 1,177,906' is provided with a fixed contact assembly in which the fixed contact 150 is connected to and supported by corona shielding members 162, 164 which are bolted to a terminal strap 350 extending from the fixed contact of the associated isolating switch (not shown). Should the supply be restored when the earthing switch blade is closed, the currents I ¢ in the loops formed by the shielding members 162, 164 and the blade provide magnetic fluxes which tend to maintain the earthing switch contacts closed. A horizontal guide member 152 and a vertical guide member 153 guide the pivoted contact-making portion of the earthing switch blade into alignment with the fixed contact 150 which has a plurality of pairs of opposed contact fingers.
