Abstract

1,197,706. Automatic circuit - breakers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 9 Jan., 1969 [24 Jan., 1968], No. 1415/69. Heading H1N. A circuit-breaker includes a fixed contact structure comprising an arcing contact 101, mounted on a resilient conductor 103, and a fixed contact 17, both co-operating with the movable arcing contact 99 such that contact 101 engages first and breaks last upon contact closing and opening, the conductor 103 carrying an arc runner 119 for transferring arcs into an arc-extinguishing structure 125. The circuitbreaker 5 is described also in Specification 1,197,705, of which the claims relate to the movable contact structure 35. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 9, the resilient conductor 145 carrying the arcing contact 151 has a U-shaped magnetic steel arc-runner 153 The moving contact arm 163 supports a main contact 160 and an arcing contact 161, cooperating with contacts 149, 151 respectively, and provides an arc-horn 169 extending into the stacked magnetic plates 159 of the arcextinguishing structure.
