Abstract

1,075,064. Gas blast switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 13, 1964 [Aug. 16, 1963], No. 33018/64. Heading H2B. The upstream arcing electrode 70 of the axialblast circuit breaker shown in Specification 987,295 is modified so as to move the upstream arc root out of the region 74 of stagnant gas in front of the electrode. As shown in Fig. 2 a P.T.F.E. insert 80 prevents the arc rooting on the centre of the electrode thus forming a loop in the current path tending to force the arc root towards the edges of the electrode. In a modification (Fig. 5) the insulating insert is replaced by a flared central bore 90 in the electrode through which a part of the blast gas is diverted.
