Abstract
1,189,948. Automatic circuit breaker. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNOKONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT ELEKTROAPPARATOV. 3 April, 1968, No. 15970/68. Heading H1N. In an automatic circuit breaker the fixed contact is supported on a coil structure arranged to generate electrodynamic forces. The coil is formed by two rigid elements 15, 16 pivoted and connected together at 27. The element 16 is screwed to the moulded casing 1 of the breaker in either of two positions shown respectively in Figs. 2 and 3. The other element 15, which is relatively movable against the action of springs, carries the fixed contact 20 and an arcing horn 23. In Fig. 2, the forces generated by the current flow in the parallel parts of elements 15, 16 are such as to tend to move element 15 clockwise about pivot 27 and thus to open the contacts under short-circuit conditions to provide current limiting. In Fig. 3 the forces tend to increase contact pressure under heavy currents. The movable element 15 is slit longitudinally the two parts being coupled by a roller 25 sufficiently loosely to allow self-alignment of the contacts. The contacts separate in an arc-chute (7) provided with a flame grid (9) and the circuit breaker (Fig. 1, not shown) is provided with conventional tripping devices (4) and quick-acting manual operating mechanism (2).
