Abstract

1,212,319. Gas blast switches. S. & C. ELECTRIC CO. 19 May, 1969 [18 July, 1968], No. 25309/69, Heading H1N. An interrupter comprises a pivoted blade contact 10 engaging with resilient main current carrying and auxiliary interrupting contacts 54, (53) (Figs 1-3, not shown) inside an arc chute comprising relatively movable gas evolving plates 62, 63 The contacts (53), 54 are mounted on spring blades (47), 48 fixed to one terminal while the blade 10 is pivoted to the other terminal of the interrupter. The plate 62 is attached to the first terminal and has attached to it a frame 64. The plate 63 slides on the attaching bolts 66 and is sealed to the frame 64 by a resilient strip 68 which also urges plates 62, 63 into engagement; it may be assisted by coil springs (Fig 6, not shown). The fixed contacts are shielded by extensions 94, 95 of the plates 62, 63 and parts 34, 35 of the terminal by a hood 97. To ensure that the blade which may be heated by a heavy current does not damage the plates 62, 63 heat-resistant spacers 86 are fitted; these enter recesses 87 in the other plate when the blade 10 is withdrawn. The interrupter may be used in the switchgear of Specification 1,134,367.
