Abstract

889,621. Air-break switches; gas-blast switches. SACHSENWERK, LICHT-UND KRAFT A.G. Oct. 31, 1958 [Oct. 31, 1957; Jan. 31, 1958], No. 35015/58. Class 38 (5). A load disconnecting switch has a main contact 1 and moving blade 2, and also has an arcing contact 3 movable with the blade and engaging a contact 4 housed within the insulator 6 supporting the main contact 1. Gasevolving arc-extinguishing jaws 9 are provided and may be tooth-shaped as shown. They may be arranged on spring members to close together when the contact 3 retracts. The contact 4 is resiliently mounted in the space 5 of the insulator and is biased by a spring 12 which overcomes the friction between the arcing contacts when fully extended and returns the contact 4 and piston 7 to the left. The piston causes a gas blast through the bore of the tube 14 to assist arc rupture.
