Abstract

923,820. Contact members for switches. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 20, 1960], No. 44759/61. Class 38 (5). A contact assembly for electric switches has a single disconnecting point 19 and a blade 11 pivoted on a stationary axis 12 disposed between the disconnecting point and that part of the contact assembly which continuously connects the blade 11 to one of the fixed terminals 14. Each fixed terminal 14, 15 comprises a group of spring-clip contacts. The end 18 of the blade 11 has saw cuts 16 to reduce electrodynamic repulsion. The arrangement is such that the repulsion at the end 17 of the blade tending to close the switch more than balances the repulsion at the end 18 tending to open the switch under heavy current conditions. The contact assembly is intended for use in switches having separate sparking contacts, the blade 11 being used only for current carrying and not for making and breaking the circuit.
