Abstract
1496732 Electrodynamic switches HAZEMEYER SA 15 May 1975 [21 May 1974] 20713/75 Heading H1N In a current limiter comprising a fixed 3 and a movable contact 4 shaped so that when an electric current greater than a threshold value flows through them an electrodynamic repulsion force is generated between them to pivot the movable contact about an axis to separate it from the fixed contact, a spring 5 urging the contacts together connects the movable contact with a pivoted element 9 which moves under the interaction between an armature 25 fixed in the element 9 and an electromagnet 27 in series with the fixed contact circuit, the arrangement being such that the armature is operated by the electromagnet at currents at the threshold value to pivot the element 9 and displace the spring 5 so that the force of the spring on the movable contact reduces and then reverses direction. After the current is cut off the armature 25 is released and under the action of the spring 5, the pivoted element 9 returns to its original position and the contacts remake. Reclosure of the contacts may be delayed by means of a dashpot or suction membrane and the current limiter may be combined with a circuit breaker, Fig. 5, not shown. Rebound of the movable contact is damped by special configuration of the pivot support of the element 9.
