Abstract

Each pole of a three-pole a. irbreak contactor is provided w ith a fuse 166 situated, and removable, forwardly of its respective contacts 141, 159. The contactor is mounted on rollers, for plug-in connection to a p.anel 135 by means of blade terminals 106 and contact jaws 133. Each terminal 106 is the rear end of an elongated conductor 30a. which forms a rectangular aperture (Fig. 6, not sho wn) to locate an arc-chute 44 and. carries a fuse clip 165 at its forward end. A fuse clip 164, vertically below clip 165, is carried on a conductive member 162 connected by a flexible. lead 160 to the moving contact 159 which is pivoted on a. flanged insulator 152 on a square-section shaft 35. Shaft 35 is movable to the contactsclosed position by an electromagnet (32, Fig. 5, not shown) and to the opened position by gravity upon de-energization of the electromagnet. The fixed contact 141 is supported on an insulating back panel 29 and connected via a magnetic blow-out coil 1,31 to the. jaws 133. Adjustment screws 156 allow the moving contacts 159 to be positioned for synchronized closure. The depending loop of flexible conductors 160 counteracts the electromagnetic repulsion on contacts 159 due to the upward loop formed by fuse 166 andconductor 30a. Each arc-chute 44 comprises two identical portions 174 of arc-resisting material moulded with tapered ribs 177 to. form a sinuous arc path. A pair of identical arc runners 180 comprising copper strips are fitted in the chute 44 as shown for plug-in co-operation of their ends 182 with respective clips 184 when the arc-chute is manually inserted or removed. Operation of electromagnet armature (72, Fig. 5, not shown) opens a switch (70) to put a resistor (67) in series with the winding (61). An arm (82) on shaft 35 actuates auxiliary switches 42.
