Abstract
804,388. Electrically released switches. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. April 4, 1956 [April 6, 1955], No. 10310/56. Class 38 (5). A switch has fixed and movable contacts 1, 2, 13, a first spring 20 for biasing the movable contact 13 to the closed position, electrodynamic means 17, 18 which, when actuated under the effect of a circuit-breaking impulse, is arranged both to act on the movable contact to displace it to the open position and also to release a second spring 24 which biases the movable contact into its open position and retains it there. In the arrangement shown, the discharge of a condenser (not shown) into a fixed winding 18 induces current into a conductive ring 17 which is repelled and moves an insulating member 15 upwards to open the contacts. In its upward movement the conical base 16 of the member 15 releases latches 26, 27 which retain the spring 24 compressed, so that the strong spring 24 overpowers the weaker tension spring 20 to ensure the effective opening of the contacts. The opening movement of the member 15 and contact 13 is arrested by a rubber buffer 29 housed within a cap 28. A high-power fuse 9 may be connected across the contacts.
