Abstract

644,489. Air-blast circuit-breakers. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 6, 1948 No. 20854. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1947. [Class 38(v)] In an air-blast circuitbreaker, a low resistance 5, adapted to limit the rate of rise of restriking volts, is connected between an annular fixed contact 2 engageable by the moveable contact 3, and an auxiliary electrode 4, and a high resistance 6, adapted to prevent over - voltages when transformer magnetizing currents are interrupted, is connected between contact 2 and the main fixed contact 1. When contacts 1, 3, separate, the arc formed is blown so that it bridges contact 1 and electrode 4 so that the resistance 5 is connected in series therewith, and the resistance 6 is inserted in parallel with the arc and resistance 5. The Specification states that magnetizing currents are ruptured at contacts 1, 3 and over-voltages prevented by resistance 6, the resistance 5 not being connected at all. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the resistance 6 is connected between the contact 1 and electrode 4, so that when the arc is extinguished, the two resistances are in series.
