Abstract
615,749. High-tension switches. FORGES ET ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE JEUMONT. May 30, 1946, No. 16480. Convention date, June 25, 1945. [Class 38 (v)] In a high-power, fluid-blast circuit-breaker having two or more series breaks, at least one arc is kept in an optimum position for extinction by a guiding channel partly enclosing the path of the movable contact, the channel having exhaust openings to which the fluid is directed. The movable contacts 2 are rotated away from contacts 3, 4, in a casing containing liquid up to the level 8, by an insulating rod 1 so that the upper arc is drawn in the channel 9, blasts of liquid passing through openings 19 which are unmasked in turn by a shutter 14 carried by the rod 1. In the first interruption, the upper contact 2 moves through the arc A, B and, on reclosing, through arc B, C; in the next interruption it moves in the opposite direction, through arc C, B, and so on. The lower contacts 2, 4 may open first to increase the pressure and a second channel 9 may be provided at the lower end of the container 7. A toroidal body 11 of resilient material may be provided to reduce the hydraulic pressure impulses and to prolong their action.
