Abstract

908,686. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb. 24, 1961 [Feb. 25, 1960], No. 6844/61. Class 38 (5). An air-blast circuit-breaker having main contacts in a conductive compressed air chamber has a second pair of series contacts within a cavity in a bushing projecting into the chamber and carrying one of the first pair of contacts. As shown, a circuit-breaker similar to that described in Specification 838,041 has a main fixed contact 2 on the end of the bushing 9 and passages 15 which connect a cavity 14 with the exhaust passage 5 of the main moving contact 3. When the contacts 2, 3 separate, compressed air from the chamber 1 passes through passages 15 to the cavity 14 to act on a piston 12 and separate contacts 10, 11 which interrupt the residual current due to a resistor 18 in parallel with the contacts 2, 3. The separation of contacts 10, 11 opens an exhaust passage 16 in the contact 11 and this passage is closed again at the end of the contact movement by a gasket 17. When the contacts 2, 3 reclose the cavity 14 is again connected to the atmosphere by the passages 15, 5 so that the contacts 10, 11 reclose. This arrangement increases the distance between the conductive walls of the chamber 1 and the line portion 11 of the inner conductor when the circuit-breaker is open.
