Abstract

806,232. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. April 3, 1957 [April 14, 1956], No. 10853/57. Class 38 (5). In an air-blast switch having a main " breaking gap " 24, 32, an auxiliary " breaking gap 24, 31 and a shunt resistor 25 enclosed in a compressed air container, the resistance is electrically connected between a wall of the container and one contact 31 of the auxiliary gap, the other contact 24 of the auxiliary gap being connected to or constituted by a contact of the main gap insulated from the wall of the container. When a valve 46 is operated to close a pipe 49 and to open a cylinder 42 to atmosphere at 52, the resulting drop in pressure in a pipe 41 and a cylinder 29 enables the pressure in the cylinder 22 to move a piston 28 to close the auxiliary contacts 31, 24 and connect the resistor 25 in parallel with the main contacts 24, 32. The pressure in the cylinder 22 acts on the blast valve 37 to move it downwardly to open exhaust passages 40 and at the same time to engage and move a valve disc 35 to open the contacts 24, 32. When the valve disc 35 abuts a sealing-ring 36 and closes the outlet to atmosphere from the cylinder 42, compressed air supplied through a pipe 44 increases the pressure in the cylinder 42 so that the blast valve 38 is reclosed and the auxiliary contacts 24, 31 are opened. The main contacts may be reclosed by moving the valve 46 to the right to close the aperture 52 and open the pipe 49 so that compressed air acts on the underside of the disc 35 and a spring 48 is able to reclose the contacts 32, 24.
