Abstract
838,041. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. June 25, 1958 [June 29, 1957], No. 20324/58. Class 38 (5). An air-blast switch (Fig. 1) comprises a movable piston 7 carrying a valve disc 11 which engages a sealing ring 5 on a flange 4 of the stationary contact 2, and having radiallyurged contacts 12 which together form a nozzle contact. In operation, compressed-air supplied to space 20 depresses an operating piston 9, thus opening the contacts and valve and allowing compressed-air to flow from container 1 through an escape channel 23 and cooling grid 22, this air opening the member 28 of a breaking valve 10, normally closed by a spring 29. When the piston 9 has reached its lower position, compressed-air flows through a channel 34 past a non-return valve 35 into the space 30, thus closing the member 28 and terminating the air flow from the channel 23. The breaker is closed by a spring 15 on evacuating the space 20, whereupon space 30 exhausts to atmosphere through a channel 33, similar exhaustion of channel 23 then occurring past the valve 10. If desired, the spring actuation of member 28 may cause the valve 10 to be open when the breaking gap is closed. In Fig. 2 the moving contact piston 57 has two coaxial cylinders 58, 61 enclosing a space 67 normally connected through a valve housing 68 to the compressed-air container 51. In operation compressed-air from pipe 86 lifts a membrane 69 to cause a valve member 70 to block the pipe 71 and exhaust space 67 to atmosphere, the compressed-air in container 51 opening the moving contact 57 and its valve disc 62. Simultaneously, compressed-air flows to the space 82 through a throttle 84, to lift the member 79 of a blocking valve 73 and close the compressed-air outlet 74, the throttle setting ensuring that the arc is extinguished before valve closure occurs. Evacuation of the pipe 86 resets the valve 70 to allow closure of the contact 57 by a spring 63, and the delayed opening of the member 79.
