Abstract
841,341. Gas-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Sept. 11, 1958 [Sept. 12, 1957], No. 29107/58. Class 38 (5). In an air-blast circuit-breaker in which the movable contact 3 is held in the open position against a spring 5 by the air-pressure in the breaking chamber 2, undesired operation upon decrease of air pressure is prevented by arranging for the normally-fixed contact 4 to move so as to maintain separation between the contacts. The contact 4 is mounted on a tube on a differential piston 18 and is biased open by a spring 20. With the breaker closed, Fig. 1, contact 4 is maintained in raised position by compressed air from container 2 occupying space 19 beneath the piston 18, and is locked by a hook pin 21. Space 6 is also under pressure through the moving contact 3, channel 13 and valve 10, pistons 8, 9 being raised. To open, these pistons are depressed by air supplied to space 7, allowing space 6 to exhaust to atmosphere through channel 14 and air pressure to raise contact 3 and exhaust through valve 11. Subsequently leakage of air through channel 15 allows valve 11 to close and air passes through channel 22 to unlock the pin 21, Fig. 2. In this position, if the pressure in container 2 decreases sufficiently, spring 20 depresses the contact 4, the arrangement being such that contact 4 moves faster than contact 3 to maintain the breaking gap. Decrease of pressure in channel 22 then allows the pin 21 to lock the piston 18, to prevent reclosure if the containerpressure again increases. A fault signal or indicator can be actuated by the piston 18.
