Abstract

713,798. Air-blast circuit-breakers. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Feb. 8, 1952 [Feb. 9, 1951], No. 3347/52. Class 38(5) The breaker contacts 3, 6, are arranged in a metal compressed air tank 1 which is permanently connected to a compressed air source over a narrow pipe 2 and is carried by an insulator 20, the fixed contact 3 being itself insulated from the container. The hollow movable contact 6 is connected to the container and is carried by a piston 7 working in a cylinder 8 and biased to the contactclosed position by a spring 10. The contacts are opened by applying pressure to a pipe 21 so that a disc 24 is raised to change over a valve 26 so as to shut off a pipe 27 and to exhaust the lower face of piston 7 to atmosphere through pipe 28, the pressure on the upper face lowering the piston and contact. At the same time, the pressure in pipes 21 and 22 raises a piston 16 to. open an exhaust valve 12 which acts as a stop for the movable contact. Valve 12 is reclosed by the air supplied to the upper side of piston 16 over a calibrated pipe 29. The contacts are reclosed by exhausting pipe 21, thereby allowing valve 26 to restore and pressure to be applied to the lower side of piston 7 via pipes 27 and 28. Similarly, both sides of piston 16 are exhausted over pipe 22 and a valve 31.
