Abstract

974,587. Gas blast switches. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. July 3, 1963 [July 5, 1962], No. 26413/63. Heading H2B. In a gas blast switch having multiple series connected switching points in chambers 3 constantly charged with pressure gas, each switching point comprises two nozzles 5, 17 bridged by a moving contact structure 8 operable by a piston 11 and carrying the movable part 12 of an exhaust blast valve 12, 18. Both sides of the piston 11 are normally subjected to the gas pressure. Upon a pressure impulse in a control conduit 24 a valve 23 vents cylinder 20 to the atmosphere allowing the piston 11 to be driven, by the pressure in chamber 3, against a spring 21, to open the exhaust valve 12, 18 to initiate the blast and then separate the contacts 8, 17. Following the extinction of the arc, series isolators (not shown) open and the contacts 8, 17 reclose.
