Abstract

765,287. Gas-blast switches. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL .CO. March 17,1955 [March 22, 1954], No. 7821/55. Class 38(5) In a gas-blast circuit interrupter, the blast is produced by the movement of a cylinder 37 about a stationary piston 36. The cylinder carries the moving contact 19 and is moved by a lift rod 20. The blast may be directed by an insulating tubular member 43 secured to the end 39 of the cylinder and the metal parts, i.e. the cylinder and piston, may be shielded from hot arc products by an insulating shield 47 screwed on the member 43. The arc extinguishing gas may be sulphur hexafluoride, in which case the members 43, 47 would be of polytetrafluoroethylene polychlorotrifluoroethylene or polyvinyl fluoride. The piston 36 may have a non- return disc valve 53 and the cylinder 37 may have ports 42 to delay the flow of the fluid until the movement of the cylinder moves the ports above the piston. The Specification describes the interrupter in a load-break disconnect switch arrangement which is substantially that of Specification 710,925.. Specification 736,090 also is referred to.
