Abstract
563,642. Air-break switches ; actuation of switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Feb. 18, 1943, No. 2739. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1942. [Class 38 (v)] A circuit-interrupter having a pair of relatively-movable arcing contacts and a pair of disconnect contacts, one of which is a rectilinearly-moving contact, has auxiliary switch means, the operating mechanism for which is actuated. by the operating means of the disconnect contact. As applied to the circuit interrupter of Specification 563,641, which may utilize a series-connected pair of arcing contacts as described in Specification 553,714, a fingercontact assembly 45 is mounted on the end of a lever 33 which is pivoted at 41., controlled by spring 51, and enclosed in hood 46. The movable contact 39 is reciprocable by means of a double-acting piston 105 guided in a slot in a cylinder 103, and having a reduced part around which a larger-diameter additional piston 225 is fitted for movement with piston 105 in the opening direction until arrested by the upper cylinder head. Air is supplied under pressure from the operating cylinder 99 of the arcing contacts by way of pipes 173, 175 for opening, and by way of pipe 183 for closing. The straight-line movement of piston 103 is caused to rotate a twisted square-section rod 243 through a right-angle to rotate a crank 247 and through linkage 273, 271. 265, 257, to operate auxiliary switch means 255, Fig. 2, for control and indicating circuits.
