Abstract

1,094,032. Vacuum switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 26, 1965, No. 3382/65. Heading H2B. A vacuum switch 30 is supported between spaced-apart terminal bushings 49 in a metallic casing 18, the bushings 49 passing in insulated fashion through the cover-plate 22, and the movable contact 36 of switch 30 is mounted on a rod 46 actuated by a rotatable operating shaft 92 via an insulating rod 96 and linkage assembly 100. Shaft 92 is common to three poles, each of which has its own rod 96 and linkage assembly for operating its vacuum switch (Fig. 2, not shown). The operating mechanism 116 is in a separate compartment or casing 20, and is connected with shaft 92 by a rod 110 and crank 112, with the circuit-breaker opening spring 120 around rod 110. A rod 102 is pivotally connected to contact rod 46 at one end and is pivotally connected with lost motion at its opposite end to insulating operating rod 96 by a pivot 98 movable along rod 102 against a spring 106 during closing. Spring 106 allows for overtravel and helps reduce contact bounce, along with the resilient mounting 70, 72 of the bushings 49.
