Abstract

491,598. Actuation of switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and KEELEY, F. J. March 8, 1937, No. 6791. [Class 38 (v)] Actuating mechanisn comprises a cylinder 1 having a piston 5 providec with rods 9 on which are mounted helical compres. sion springs 8 bearing on a cross-head 6 having a rod 7 for operating switch gear, not shown. The admission of fluid under pressure through a pipe 4 causes piston 5 to move downwards and compress springs 8, but rod 7 is held by a latch 12 until a member 13 on one of the rods 9 completes at 14 the tripping circuit for latch 12 and the rod 7 moves rapidly downwards to operate the switch. The contacts 13, 14 may merely close an indicating circuit, the tripping circuit then being closed at a control board. In a modification, the rod 7 is held by an overset toggle, and a further latch is provided for holding the piston in the operated position.
