Abstract

538,457. Snap-action switches. LEE. HOWL & CO., Ltd., and PAYNE, B. W. March 28, 1940, No. 5626. [Class 38 (v)] In a switch suitable for operation by a float, the float moves an actuating member b which operates with lost motion a heavy member f pivoted at its lower end and connected with lost motion to a light contact or contact-operating member j also pivoted at its lower end. As the lever b moves in a clockwise direction, the light member j first passes the dead centre position but is quickly followed by the heavy member which strikes it a hammer blow to drive the contact j into the fixed contacts k. When the lever b moves back for the reverse operation, the heavy member f moves first and strikes the light member to cause separation of the contacts.
