In order to provide one position of the controller, e.g. the off ' position, in which the dead man's handle ' cannot hold the auxiliary switch closed, the operation is transmitted from the handle (not shown) by a rod 4 terminating in a disc 7 which has a gap or depression 8 in line with the desired position of the controller drum 1. At any other position of the drum, the flat portion of the disc can bear upon a pivoted switch member 16 so as to open the auxiliary contacts 13.
