Abstract

1,172,091. Vacuum switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Aug., 1967 [23 Sept., 1966], No. 42607/66. Heading H1N. The vacuum switch contacts 1, 2, separate rapidly and then move further apart at a reduced speed determined by a dash-pot 23. A power source (not shown) provides a force 11 for opening the switch by pivoting a lever 9 to move a cross-bar 14 and operating rods 16 which have shoulders 21 thereon, the shoulders engaging a disc 19 which is secured to a stem 8 integral with contact 2 to open the contacts against the force of springs 18. Two or more switches can be axially aligned for simultaneous operation. The end 24 of part 13 of the operating linkage engages end 25 of the piston-rod 26 of dash-pot 23 after travelling a certain distance so that subsequent opening movement of the contacts 1, 3 is retarded.
