Abstract
556,261. Actuation of switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Nov. 18 1942, No. 16299. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1941. [Class 38 (v)] A pneumatic operating means for a circuitbreaker in which main contacts are adapted, on fault, to open, re-close, and open again, the circuit finally being opened at a disconnecting switch, comprises a small diameter piston 8 fixed to the operating rod 4 and a larger-diameter piston 9 freely movable on the rod 4 but engageable by a shoulder 10 thereon. To close, valves 12, 13, are opened and both pistons move to their upper positions, whereas for normal opening, valve 11 is opened and piston 8 moves downwards, to engage and carry 9 with it. On fault, valves 11, 13 open and piston 8 moves down, but is arrested by 9 because the pressure acts beneath the latter, whereupon 11 is closed and 12 is opened to cause 8 to reclose the switch. If the fault persists, 11 is again opened and 12, 13 are closed, so that 8 moves through its full stroke unarrested by 9.
