Abstract
856,198. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. March 24, 1959 [March 26, 1958], No. 10107/59. Class 38 (5). In an air-blast circuit-breaker, such as that of Specification 770,100, having a blast valve 4 opened when compressed-air is supplied through a pipe 9 to the lower face of a piston 2, the space above the piston 2 is connected to atmosphere through a channel 10 to ensure rapid operation of the valve. The channel 10 is closed as the piston reaches the end of its travel and remains closed as compressed-air through an aperture 11 in the piston 2 equalizes the pressure on both sides of the piston to permit the return of the piston 2 and the reclosing of the blast valve 4. The channel 10 is only re-opened as pressure in the space above the piston 2 falls on connecting the pipe 9 to atmosphere. In Fig. 1 the channel 10 is closed by a valve disc 13 which is axially movable on the piston-rod 3 and when moved up by the piston 2 against a seating 15 is retained there by the pressure in the space above the piston 2. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the piston 2, as it moves into its uppermost position, opens a port leading to a valve-operating member which closes an outlet valve in the channel 10.
