810,763. Valves. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Sept. 6, 1957 [Oct. 10, 1956], No. 28165/57. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXVII] In an air-blast circuit-breaker comprising a number of series-connected breaking gaps in containers carried on pillar insulators which are filled with compressed air, a valve is provided in the connection between each of the pillar insulators and a common air pressure source, each valve having a movable valve member with a nozzle through which the compressed air passes and which is directly actuated to the closed position by the pressure difference between its sides due to the throttling of the large air stream through the nozzle in the event of a burst insulator column. In Fig. 2 the movable valve member 11 is carried by a diaphragm 10 and connected by a spider 13 to a rod 14 carrying a disc 17. A spring 18 acting on the disc 17 normally biases the member 11 to the open position shown. When the air flow through the nozzle in the member 11 becomes excessive, the member 11 is moved to the right by the pressure differential into a position in which the nozzle is closed by a fixed member 12 and the air flow ceases. At the same time contacts 15, 16 are closed to complete a signal circuit. In Fig. 3 the movable valve member is a piston 21 which is normally biased open by a spring 23. In this case the fixed member 22 is carried by an insulating bushing and the member 22 and the piston 21 act as contacts to close the signal circuit.
