Abstract
890,535. Gas-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Nov. 20, 1959 [Nov. 24,. 1958], No. 39388/59. Class 38 (5). A gas-blast circuit-breaker comprises a compressed gas container 1 carrying at one end a fixed hollow contact 3 and at the other end a cylindrical casing 8 in which slides a hollow contact 4 joined by a rod 16 to a spring-biased piston 14 movable in a cylinder 15. Contacts 3, 4 are connected in parallel with auxiliary contacts 21, 22 and a resistor 23 by members 1, 8, 24, contact 21 being carried by a spring- biased piston 20 slidable inside contact 3. Contact 4 has spring-biased fingers 6 and an annular portion 11 co-operating respectively with a protrusion 7 and a flexible ring-shaped seating 12 on the contact 3, members 11, 12 forming a gastight seal. When the breaker is closed the inside of contact 4 communicates with the atmosphere through an open spring-controlled valve 13 and with the space 28 above piston 20 through a channel 26, thus allowing gas in space 29, charged from container 1 through a channel 25, to raise piston 20 against spring 27 to close contacts 21, 22. To open, gas from pipe 19 forces the piston 14 and contact 4 to the right and an arc-extinguishing gas-blast flows out through contact 4 and valve 13, after which the latter is closed by gas from cylinder 15 passing through a channel 30 to its interior. Opening of contact 4 allows gas to pass through the channel 26 to equalize the pressure in spaces 28, 29 and allow spring 27 to open the contacts 21, 22, the time interval between the opening of contacts 3, 4 and 21, 22 being determined by the size of the channel 26. To close, pipe 19 is exhausted to allow the spring 18 to operate the piston 14, movement of which connects the valve 13 to atmosphere through a channel 31. The closure of contacts 3, 4 and the consequent opening of the valve 13 allows the space 28 to exhaust to atmosphere and the closure of contacts 21, 22 to be effected by the piston 20.
