Abstract
1,052,905. Gas-blast circuit-breakers. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. April 9, 1964 [April 10, 1963]. No. 14639/64. Heading H2B. A gas-blast circuit-breaker comprises a compressed air container 1, two series-connected pairs of contacts 5, 9 and 7, 10 each pair including a hollow movable contact, a common exhaust blast valve 13, a resistor 4 in parallel with the contacts 5, 9 the opening of which is controlled by the blast valve, and a separate control valve for controlling the opening of the contacts 7, 10. To open the circuit-breaker, compressed gas is applied through a pipe 32 to a piston 28 which opens the blast valve 13 to vent a space 11 to atmosphere. The compressed gas in the container 1 acting on a piston 14 opens the contact 9. When the blast valve is open, the piston 28 uncovers a pipe 26 so that compressed gas acts on a piston 24 to move a valve element 20 to shut off the supply of compressed gas to a cylinder 19 and to vent this cylinder to atmosphere. Compressed gas acting on a piston 18 now opens the contact 10. Compressed gas bleeds through a channel 31 in the piston 28 to equalize the pressures on both sides of the piston so that a spring 29 recloses the blast valve 13. The resulting increase in pressure in the space 11 permits a spring 17 to reclose the contacts 9, 5, but the contacts 10, 7 remain open until the pressure gas is vented from the pipe 32.
