Abstract
821,198. High-tension switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Jan. 29, 1958 [Feb. 1, 1957], No. 2937/58. Class 38 (5). An air-blast circuit-breaker with contacts 10, 23 in a metal container 2 filled with compressed air, has a lead-through insulator 7 in the wall of the container 2 carrying the movable contact 10 and its operating piston 11, and another leadthrough insulator 6 which carries the stationary nozzle contact 23 and a blast valve 29. To open the breaker a coil 59 is energized to overcome a holding magnet 58 so that a spring 54 moves a piston 56 and rod 55 upward to operate a valve 48 so that compressed air passes from the container 2 along a pipe 49 to act on a piston 43. This operates a valve 35 to pass compressed air from container 2 to the operating cylinder 25 to open the blast-valve 29. The latter part of the movement of the piston 43 allows compressed air to pass along a tube 46 and act on a piston 40 which operates a valve 22 to open the underside of the contact piston 11 to the atmosphere. As the contacts open exhaust air passes around the arcing contact 27 and through a cooling grid 28 and the blast valve to the atmosphere. Air also passes through a hole 45 in the piston 43 so that after sufficient time for circuit interruption the blast valve is again closed. To close the breaker a coil 63 is energized to operate a valve 60 and supply compressed air to the piston 56 so that it is restored to the position where it is retained by the magnet 58. This allows a spring 53 to reset the valve 48 so that the compressed air supply is cut-off from the piston 40 and the valve 22 is restored so that spring pressure on the piston 11 closes the contacts. The valve 29 may alternatively be arranged close to the contact 23.
