Abstract

702,509. Gas-blast circuit-breakers. LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS GES. Feb. 27, 1952 [Feb. 28, 1951; May 30, 1951], No. 5130/52. Class 38(5) A circuit-breaker has at least one movable tubular contact through which blast gas passes to open an exhaust valve which is normally held closed by a spring and is reclosed when the contact reaches a certain position. As shown, the breaker has two co-acting movable contacts 21, each of which comprises a nozzle and a piston 3<SP>1</SP>, gas being applied to the right-hand face of the latter through an aperture 18<SP>1</SP> in a cylinder 4<SP>1</SP>, so as to move the contact to the open position. The exhaust valve 9<SP>1</SP> is normally held closed by a spring R but opens when the blast passes through the contact 2<SP>1</SP>. When piston 3<SP>1</SP> passes the end of a pipe 16<SP>1</SP>, pressure is applied to the left-hand side of valve body 9<SP>1</SP> and the valve is reclosed by its spring. The blast valve (not shown) is closed when a series isolator is opened or after a short time delay, after which contacts 2<SP>1</SP> reclose. One or two circuit-breakers may be arranged vertically or horizontally on a common pillar insulator, and may be connected in series with an isolator, the movable contact of which swings in a vertical or horizontal plane, Figs. 2-4, (not shown).
