602,966. Gas-blast circuit-breakers. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Nov. 13, 1945, No. 30373. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1944. [Class 38 (v)] In a gas-blast circuitbreaker, a resistance 10 surrounding an insulating cylinder 9 is connected between a main movable contact 1 and a fixed ring contact 6, so as to be in series with the returning- voltage arc between a movable counter-contact 3, and the contact 6. The main contact 1 is opened rapidly against a spring 5 by gas admitted between insulating cylinders 11, 13, and exhausted through the hollow contacts 1, 3. The countercontact 3 is moved more slowly by a piston (not shown) in the cylinder 15, so that it reaches a position 3<1>, where the arc is extinguished, and finally proceeds to position 3<11>in which it remains to provide an isolating break. The contact 1 may alternatively be opened and closed by compressed gas supplied through a special control pipe.
